Monday, April 14, 2008
First off, thank you to those who were able to attend. I hope you found what you were looking for and I hope to speak again at different venues. (I’m available.)
Here are some key points from Do-It-Yourself: E-mail Marketing
Benefits
- E-mail marketing is a fraction of the cost of a direct mail campaign. (Example: $15.00 for 1,000 e-mails)
- If you try to send out more than 20 e-mails from your personal e-mail account you run the risk of being blacklisted.
- E-mail marketing can reinforce your branding identity and keep your company fresh in the mind of clients and potential customers.
- E-mail marketing is web based and does not require programming knowledge.
Marketing
- Campaign reports offer rich detail marketing information such as:
- Open Rate
- Click Through Rate
- Bounce Rate
- Unsubscribe
- 24 hr Tracking
- You have the ability to refine your marketing tactics by:
- Determine the optimal time of Day/Week/Month.
- Design e-mails specifically for the group such as: Potential Clients, Current Clients, etc.
- Distribution by region.
- Testing different types of content/offers.
Building a Database
- Easy form wizards you can copy and paste code into your website that directly connects with you e-mail marketing database.
- Optimize your networking efforts by sending an e-mail campaign to the people you have met who gave you their business card.
Tips for Successful E-mail Campaigns
- Personalize the e-mail by using form fields.
- Use article teasers.
- Add call to actions/deadlines.
- For repeat e-mail campaigns change up the subject line.
- Link to landing pages or the specific content referred to.
What can you offer to your client as a designer.
You can create customize template designs to match you client’s identity. For my client’s tight budget, I use the email canvas in PowerMail to set up the template with the ability for my client to create and edit their own. You can also manage your clients e-mail campaigns for them.
Partner Up!
There are also opportunities to be a reseller/business partner with an e-mail marketing program online and make commission. I recommend partnering with companies that do not require any money from you. There is no reason you should pay them to sell their product unless you are adamant about having your branding identity on the program. If so, then check into where your logo is placed and what mention of their company will be on it?
