He Said, She Said: Getting a Handle on Client Communications
One of the easiest ways for a project to go from good to total chaos is with the communication. First, it’s imperative to communicate with the client clearly and frequently. Second, if you’re not speaking the same language, you might as well hang up the phone (Sorry guys, but it’s (y)our job to learn their language, and quickly). Third, and most importantly, in regards to everything you discuss or decide verbally: write it down and send it to the client immediately, or else you’ll have a case of “he said, she said” on your hands. Keeping your client in the loop educates them on the process and helps them to develop an appreciation for your skill and effort. The client will become invested in the project and will most likely come back again and again.
